From the Hôtel d'Angleterre on foot in 10 minutes, visit and/or do your shopping at the Umbrella Factory in Cherbourg.
Located on the quays close to the city center in the heart of a 19th century building revealing moldings and pilasters with acanthus leaves, the shop offers many luxury umbrellas suitable for everyone, silks, gloves, headgear, crystal, porcelain, small leather goods and many other products designed in noble materials.
Jean-Pierre Yvon, creator of the brand, himself took care of the layout of the building by designing custom furniture to restore this building to its former glory. Installed in the heart of the building, the manufacturers make the umbrellas by hand under the eyes of the public. From the cutting of the fabrics to the final assembly, discover the manufacturing secrets of the Genuine Cherbourg.
You can extend the visit in the projection room "The History of the Umbrellas of Cherbourg", visit the Umbrella Museum and even take the time to take a break at the Tea Room.
At the top of Montagne du Roule overlooking Cherbourg, the Liberation Museum offers a superb panoramic view of the city and its harbour.
It retraces, chronologically, the different stages of the Second World War, from the exodus to the liberation of Cherbourg. It is housed in a former Second Empire fort, occupied by the German army during the Second World War.
Its recapture by Allied troops on June 25, 1944 is one of the symbols of the liberation of Cherbourg. A scenography tour will take you from the shadows of the Occupation to the lights of the D-Day landings in this museum at the heart of history.
By the way, if you are in Cherbourg, take the opportunity to visit the largest harbor in the world by boat !
Also, several gardens such as the Emmanuel Liais park are a few steps from the hotel for a change of scenery in the city center with its greenhouses, a surprising plant heritage, play areas for children.
Not far from the Hôtel d'Angleterre, you can discover Jean François Millet's house, Tatihou Island with its Vauban tower and the Ravalet castle and park.
